PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Dunk, the Dunkin’, the Buddy Cianci Center?
With the news that Dunkin’ Donuts is dropping the word “donuts” from its name — but not doughnuts from its menu — what is to become of the 46-year-old arena in downtown Providence?
The Dunkin’ Donuts Center is synonymous with Providence, mainly through nationally televised sporting events like Providence College basketball and NCAA Tournament action that regularly tops the building’s marquee.
It’s currently unclear if a name change for the building is in the mix. Larry Lepore, the building’s general manager, said he’s been told that while Dunkin’ will be altering its corporate logo and name beginning in 2019, no decision has been made on what to do with the 12,500-seat building name.
