Albany at PC: Play of Friars’ guards will continue to be key

PROVIDENCE — There is nothing like playing time to inject a little life in a basketball player’s game.

That fact was clear in Providence College’s 87-63 blowout win on Sunday over Central Connecticut. With second-leading scorer A.J. Reeves out for an extended period with an injured foot, Ed Cooley needed to fill some prime minutes and found some willing takers.

Junior Maliek White stepped into Reeves’ starting shooting guard spot and set career-highs in points (18), field goals (seven) and, most important, minutes (28). Makai Ashton-Langford filled White’s role as the first guard off the bench and also shined.
