South Africa clinched the bronze medal by defeating Zimbabwe 5-3 on penalties in the inaugural Cosafa U20 Women's Cup third/fourth place match on Saturday.
The two teams had played out a 1-1 draw in regulation time before the hosts won the ensuing penalty shootout.
Basetsana had defeated the Mighty Warriors 3-0 in their opening match. As expected, the hosts had the upper hand in terms of ball possession but the breakthrough only came through Shakeerah Jacobs in the 44th minute.
However, the celebration did not last for too long for Basetsana as Praynence Zvawandan profited from a defensive blunder to level matters seconds from half time.
