Former Leeds defender Jonathan Woodgate is to work as a scout for Liverpool, focusing on players in continental Europe.
The 36-year-old, who won eight England caps, also played for Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Tottenham, Stoke and Real Madrid during an 18-year career.
He was released in May by Middlesbrough following their promotion to the Premier League.
Woodgate is expected to be based in Spain for his new recruitment role.
He will also scout in Portugal and may be used by the club to oversee specific targets elsewhere.
Liverpool have brought several players from Spain and Portugal in recent seasons with a modest success rate.
