Wolves have failed in a bid to miss the first week of the season.
The Midlands club had appealed to the Premier League to allow them — and Chelsea — to swerve the first round of fixtures because of their extended campaigns.
Molineux officials suggested that they and the west London club be drawn to play each Manchester side on the first weekend, as United and City’s opening matches will be postponed thanks to their own involvement in Europe.

However, sources have disclosed that the move did not get the green light and that Nuno Espirito Santo’s weary men — who completed a marathon 383-day campaign on August 11 against Sevilla in the Europa League quarter-final — will be in action in week one, which kicks off on September 12.
