West Brom's plans to run safe-standing trial at The Hawthorns are denied by sports minister Tracey Crouch

West Bromwich Albion have been denied the chance to run a safe-standing pilot scheme at The Hawthorns by the British government.

The Baggies had offered to trial safe-standing for both home and away fans in the Smethwick End.

A formal application was submitted in October 2017 to install the section this summer ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

However Tracey Crouch MP, the minister for sport, has not given the green light to the project and insisted there are no plans to scrap their all-seater policy at stadia.
