Wayne Rooney's tenure at Derby has been blighted by financial issues, failed takeovers and injuries ahead of relegation showdown with Sheffield Wednesday... the Man United legend has had a turbulent start but saving the Rams would be a career highlight

Wayne Rooney spent much of his career playing in the showpiece games of the greatest tournaments yet there were none more important than the one he faces on Saturday.

At the end of his first season as a first-team player, the 17-year-old Rooney had five senior England caps and was a key member of an Everton team who finished seventh in the 2002-03 Premier League. A year later, just 18, he scored four times at Euro 2004, joined Manchester United for £27million and scored a hat-trick on his debut.

His career in management has not started quite so successfully.
