Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes did his best to prevent a Boxing Day defeat at home to Crystal Palace, with the Brazilian stopper saving the ninth penalty of his Premier League career.
Gomes denied Christian Benteke from 12 yards as Sam Allardyce was left to rue a gilt-edged opportunity to go into the interval 2-0 to the good at Vicarage Road, after Yohan Cabaye had given his new side the lead.
The former Tottenham keeper made amends for wiping out Benteke with a reckless challenge inside the box, guessing right by diving to his left to palm away Benteke's tame, stuttering attempt to keep the score at 1-0 to the visitors.
