VAR causes controversy again as Spurs host Rochdale in FA Cup

Tottenham Hotspur's FA Cup replay with Rochdale was mired in controversy as VAR ruled out an early Spurs goal and overturned a penalty.

Erik Lamela had the ball in the net early in the match, but saw his goal chalked off as referee Paul Tierney went to the video assistant who cited a foul from Fernando Llorente in the build-up.

VAR strikes again

Spurs thought they had the lead, but Fernando Llorente was judged to have committed a foul.

Heung-Min Son put Spurs ahead after 24 minutes and had the chance to double the lead shortly after when VAR gave the hosts a penalty, but another controversial decision saw his stuttered spot kick deemed unlawful.
