Under-pressure Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe hits out at captain Steve Cook for 'unhelpful' media comments after he slammed team's performance and said they 'played like kids' in 4-1 hammering against Newcastle

Under-fire manager Eddie Howe has criticised Steve Cook for going public about Bournemouth's issues and says the comments are unhealthy in the Cherries' fight against relegation.

Stand-in captain Cook said Bournemouth 'played like kids' following their heavy 4-1 home defeat to Newcastle which put them in serious danger of the drop from the Premier League.

The South-coast side are on a torrid run of just two wins since December and Wednesday's humiliating defeat at the Vitality Stadium left them 19th with six games to play.

Pressure has started to mount on Howe following their disappointing season, but the long-serving manager felt his defender's comments were a hindrance in their fight to stay in the division.
