Thomas Tuchel admitted he was relieved to avoid another VAR decision against his side after Timo Werner ended his six-month league goal drought to set up Chelsea’s win over Southampton.
Werner had an effort ruled out in the 41st minute for a foul by Cesar Azpilicueta on Tino Livramento, a decision Tuchel was so infuriated by he received a yellow card from referee Martin Atkinson.
But Werner responded in fine fashion, breaking Southampton’s resistance in the 84th minute to put his side in front as they returned to the top of the Premier League.
Tuchel was simply happy that Werner could celebrate without fearing it would be overturned.
