Former Premier League star Glenn Murray urged parents to help inspire their children to get outdoors and play sport as he told how he owed his success to his dad’s ‘unwavering support’.
The former Brighton and Crystal Palace striker worked with his father Martin as a plasterer after failing to land a Youth Opportunity Scheme place with Carlisle United as a teenager.
Murray, 39, said his dad was the one person who ‘constantly’ believed in him when he had all but given up hope of playing professional football.
He told MailOnline: ’There’s a big onus on mental health at the moment and I think a lot of young people out there who doubt themselves think they’re not good enough to be somewhere.
