Sunderland takeover discussions end without deal being struck and owner Ellis Short will retain control at the Stadium of Light

Sunderland have revealed that takeover negotiations with potential new owners have come to an end without a deal being agreed.

The Black Cats, who are preparing for life in the Championship following relegation last season, had been in discussions with at least two separate parties over a possible transfer of power at the Stadium of Light.

A German consortium and another led by Fulwell 73 Productions owners Leo Pearlman, Gabe Turner and Ben Turner had been in talks.
