Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes is on the shortlist to replace David Moyes at Sunderland.
Chief executive Martin Bain is leading the search for the new manager and it is understood that his fellow Scot is under consideration.
McInnes, though, has a Scottish Cup Final against Celtic to concentrate on this weekend and any approach would have to wait until after that game.
He has led the Dons to three successive second-placed finishes and it is thought former Scotland and Rangers boss Walter Smith has recommended him to Bain.
