A significant number of frontline medical practitioners, including doctors, physiotherapists and sports therapists, working across the Premier League and the EFL, do not feel they have been effectively consulted around medical issues relating to a return to training.
The Football Medicine and Performance Association (FMPA) has been in consultation with its members and a survey revealed that almost 50% of respondents within the Premier League and 68% in the EFL reported that they do not fully understand their role, responsibilities and potential liability in relation to a return to training.
Issues raised include poor communication and being placed under pressure to conform, with many questions remaining unanswered.
