After being thumped 4-0 in the reverse fixture two weeks ago, Melbourne Victory have done much better on home soil as they drew 1-1 with Guangzhou Evergrande.
Sitting bottom of their group, Victory opted to field a second-string side from the outset with foriegn stars Keisuke Honda and Ola Toivonen missing from Kevin Muscat's side entirely.
Though slow starters, Guangzhou would open the scoring in the 24th minute as Huang Bowen slotted home after being set up by former Barcelona midfielder Paulinho.
Victory were able to respond almost immediately however with Jai Ingham curling home after Talisca was robbed of possession in his own third.
