The letter from a mother of four, trying to home school her children with only one laptop, did not ask for the earth.
‘I wondered if it might be possible for you to loan us a spare laptop?’ she asked Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion. ‘I would take very good care of it and make sure the club got it back.’
It struck more of a chord than she could have imagined. Her plea was shared with the club’s players, who have seen to it that a fund they helped set up last year is now funding 125 computers for children on the wrong side of the digital divide
The first laptops were delivered last week to 10 schools in boroughs such as Moulsecoomb, bordering Brighton’s Amex Stadium, in one of the poorest boroughs in southern England.
