A growing number of Premier League clubs fear that even the postponement of Euro 2020, likely to be confirmed by UEFA on Tuesday, will not be sufficient to save this season in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.
UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin is convening a conference call of the major stakeholders, including leagues, federations and players but not fans, on Tuesday. All options will be discussed.
The postponement of Euro 2020 is likely, not least because much of the tournament is in the British Isles. There are games in London, Glasgow and Dublin and the British government's modelling suggests that June, when the early games are scheduled, could be the peak of the pandemic in the UK.
