Roma's sporting director Monchi has revealed the club wanted Olivier Giroud to replace Edin Dzeko had the striker been sold to Chelsea in January.
The Serie A side rejected several offers from the west London club to sign their Bosnian striker although they did manage to buy left back Emerson Palmieri from the Giallorossi.
Giroud did eventually seal his move away from Arsenal before the winter window slammed shut, after Chelsea loaned Michy Batshuayi to Borussia Dortmund who wanted to replace Arsenal-bound Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
After Roma managed to keep hold of their forward, Monchi revealed that the Italian side would have had a replacement lined up.
