An FA executive involved in a decision not to light up Wembley in Israel colours called for a free Palestine in a 2013 tweet where he said he would be boycotting a football tournament held in Israel.

Deji Davies, the chairman of the FA's Inclusion Advisory Board (IAB), tweeted in 2013 that the European Under-21 Championship 'shouldn't be being held in Israel at all'.

Mr Davies wrote: 'Boycotting European U21 tournament. Shouldn't be being held in Israel at all. Certainly won't be watching #FreePalestine.'

He has now deleted the tweet after the Telegraph contacted him for comment, saying: 'Clearly this is such a difficult time for many people.
