Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe was emailed an apology by referee Roger East following his failure to award them a penalty against Stoke.
Callum Wilson appeared to be fouled by Ryan Shawcross in the first half of the Cherries' 1-0 win on Saturday.
East waved play-on despite protests from Wilson and Howe in the Premier League match at the bet365 Stadium.
"To be fair to Roger, he got in contact straight away once he'd acknowledged he was wrong," Howe told BBC Radio Solent.
The game was goalless when last-man Shawcross seemed to bring Wilson down without making contact with the ball in the 10th minute.
