Video Assistant Referees will not be seen in the Premier League until 2018 at the earliest, despite the technology passing its most high-profile test yet in Tuesday night's France versus Spain international.

The revolutionary technology ensured that Antoine Griezmann's goal for France was rightly ruled out for offside and Gerard Deulofeu's strike for Spain was correctly awarded at the Stade de France.

The second decision took 40 seconds to make, highlighting that VAR referrals need not unduly disrupt the flow of football matches.
