The fragile relationship between the FA and the Premier League has been tested again by stalled talks over a much-needed winter break, supported by the elite clubs and national team.
It is understood discussions over closing down the Premier League around the New Year had reached an advanced stage before the FA signed their $1billion overseas FA Cup rights guarantee from agencies Pitch International and IMG.
This included the promise of weekend FA Cup matches for the duration of the contract until 2025. But the PL were bewildered that the FA could be in talks about a winter break yet still sign a deal that complicates finding time for players to rest in the crowded calendar.
