Owner of Premier League clubs fear that their ability to sign players from EU countries could be damaged in the fall-out from Brexit.
Clubs are concerned that new immigration controls to be brought in after Brexit could have a serious impact. Players from EU countries provide the majority of overseas imports to the Premier League.
Chancellor Philip Hammond has promised 'highly-skilled and highly-paid workers' — with PL footballers fitting both bills — will not be subject to new controls .
And West Ham's David Gold and Stoke City's Peter Coates have called on the Government to include footballers among those exempted.
