Just over 12 months ago, Palmeiras discovered just how quickly fortunes can change in football, and for all the wrong reasons.
Victory against Santos in the Copa Libertadores final had sealed Palmeiras' first-ever entry into the Club World Cup. But within a week, they were mocked by rival clubs following their shock 1-0 defeat by Mexican side Tigres in the semi-finals of the tournament.
That was then compounded with the ignominy of losing to African Kings Al Ahly in the third place play-off on penalties.
Failure to win either match, or worse still even net a single goal in the competition still haunts them and saw the term 'vexame' used upon their return home, one often associated with shame or humiliation in Brazil.
