One day in the last couple of weeks, almost lost in the frantic manoeuvring that followed the Government sanctioning of Roman Abramovich, Helen MacNamara, Chief Policy and Corporate Affairs Officer of the Premier League, made an appearance before the House of Commons Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee.
When the topic turned to the general governance of English football and the recommendation in the recent fan-led Crouch Review that the game should appoint an independent regulator, a note of certainty entered MacNamara's voice.
'We definitely don't want a statutory independent regulator,' she said, repeating the claim for good measure.
