Norwich City become third Premier League club to drop wages of non-playing staff as Canaries utilise government's coronavirus job retention scheme

Norwich have become the latest Premier League club to start furloughing staff.

The Canaries, bottom of the top flight, will utilise the government's coronavirus job retention scheme, which allows staff to claim 80 per cent of their wages, to a maximum of £2,500 per month.

The club will then top up the money to ensure their staff receive their full salary.

When an employee is placed on furlough they are temporarily put on a leave of absence and not paid, although they remain on the payroll, meaning that they do not lose their job.
