Newcastle facing legal threat from Sheffield Wednesday following their appointment of Steve Bruce

Sheffield Wednesday are considering legal action after Newcastle United revealed Steve Bruce as their new manager.

Wednesday were furious to discover via social media that Mike Ashley's club had hired Bruce and consider Newcastle guilty of appalling conduct.

Bruce and two members of his coaching staff – Stephen Clemence and Steve Agnew – handed in their resignations on Monday but it is unclear if these had been accepted by Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri, who had rejected an initial £3m compensation offer.

Wednesday said in a statement: 'Regardless of the fact that the staff resigned from their positions, there remain outstanding legal issues to be resolved between the club and the staff and Newcastle.
