Ahmed Elmohamady's late equaliser secured a precious point for Aston Villa in their battle to beat the drop.

Steve Bruce appeared to have pushed his former side nearer the drop as his second-half substitutes Dwight Gayle and Andy Carroll combined to break the deadlock in the 68th minute.

But El Mohamady flicked in a corner from Conor Hourihane to levcel in the 83rd minute on Wednesday night.
