Mark Bullingham, the FA chief executive, has confirmed that he is working with the Premier League and the Government to ensure that the threat of a European Super League can never emerge again.
The three parties are considering all options, including legislation and changes to FA and Premier League rules, to remove the possibility of the Big Six ever attempting to use the breakaway threat to gain increased power and revenue, as they have been doing effectively for almost 30 years.
There was concern at the FA and Premier League that the rebel clubs may have competition law on their side when news of the ESL’s imminent launch broke last weekend so they may lobby the Government to introduce new legislation.
