Pulling on the claret and blue for the first time at Upton Park was a special moment, when I came on as a substitute for Geoff Pike in a 2-1 win against Coventry.
I thought the shirt looked good with its angled collar.
Even growing up in Liverpool, I’d admired the West Ham strip. The colours went together and I liked the away kit as well, worn by Bobby Moore’s team with its hoops.
The funny thing is, as a young man in London, I wasn’t too confident about my own fashion coordination, so I tended to wear a reddish tank top and blue trousers because I knew from West Ham it was a colour scheme that worked!
