Mourinho's bus escort complaints dismissed by police after Man Utd's Champions League kick-off delay

Claims from Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho that his side were denied a police escort prior to their Champions League group stage clash against Valencia have been rebuffed by the force, who are laying the blame squarely at the feet of the Old Trafford side.

The Red Devils arrived at Old Trafford only 45 minutes prior to kick off of their encounter against the Spanish side, forcing them to delay the start of the match by five minutes as a consequence.

The embattled Mourinho claimed that the embarrassing situation was due to Greater Manchester Police (GMP) refusing their request for an escort to the match, thereby leaving the squad to stew in traffic for 75 minutes as they made their way from the Lowry Hotel in Salford.
