Mikel Arteta says Kieran Tierney will provide something 'special' for Arsenal when football returns with Scottish star fit after injury-hit start

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta believes Kieran Tierney is 'going to bring something special' to the squad after overcoming a string of injuries that have left him sitting on the bench.

The Gunners completed a £25million deal for defender Tierney last August, with the left-back signing a five-year contract at the Emirates after leaving Celtic.

Tierney, who wears the No 3 shirt, only started four Premier League games and made eight appearances for Arsenal under Unai Emery and is yet to feature under Arteta.

The 22-year-old made a slow start to the season after recovering from a summer hernia operation, before being sidelined once again after dislocating his shoulder against West Ham in December.
