More competitions are moving away from television, mirroring a change in the way consumers view the sport
We have likely reached the high-water mark for soccer viewing on television in the United States, and that tide has now begun to recede.
Developments over the past few months have underlined the clear shift in the sport’s availability from mostly linear television to an a-la-carte jumble of subscription streaming services.
In a way, this shift is unsurprising and inevitable, the result of massive changes in the way viewers consume content.
Viewed through another lens, though, the change is putting the squeeze on some American soccer fans, presenting them with a mountain of charges if they wish to view all of Europe’s elite competitions.
