As the Glazer family continue to toy with the idea of selling Manchester United, the issue of Marcus Rashford’s future cannot be left unattended.

On the one hand, the ownership of the club has to be more important than any one player as the Qataris, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and a smattering of US hedge funds jockey for position in the queue to offer the Glazers the deal they want.

On the other, no player is more important to United’s hopes of securing a lucrative place in the Champions League than Rashford.

The 25-year-old’s goal in the 1-0 win over Brentford on Wednesday night was his 28th of the season.
