Manchester United ready to hijack Liverpool's bid to land long-term target Thiago Alcantara as they 'make contact with midfielder's adviser' despite closing in on £40m capture of Donny van de Beek

Manchester United have reportedly made contact with Thiago Alcantara's adviser as they look to beat Liverpool to the signing of the Bayern Munich midfielder.

Liverpool have been viewed as favourites to land the 29-year-old after he told Bayern he would be leaving following their Champions League success in Lisbon last month.
