Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is set to bolster his defence by signing Holger Badstuber on loan from former club Bayern Munich.
The 27-year-old centre half has had horrendous luck with injury since tearing a cruciate ligament in 2012 and current Bayern manager Carlo Ancelotti has sanctioned a temporary move away from the Allianz Arena in order for him to get some much-needed games under his belt.
City are short of defensive cover. They started the season with three central defenders — but injury to captain Vincent Kompany has seen Aleksandar Kolarov drafted in to partner Nicolas Otamendi on a number of occasions.
