Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola set to sign Holger Badstuber on loan from Bayern Munich to help defence

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is set to bolster his defence by signing Holger Badstuber on loan from former club Bayern Munich.

The 27-year-old centre half has had horrendous luck with injury since tearing a cruciate ligament in 2012 and current Bayern manager Carlo Ancelotti has sanctioned a temporary move away from the Allianz Arena in order for him to get some much-needed games under his belt.

City are short of defensive cover. They started the season with three central defenders — but injury to captain Vincent Kompany has seen Aleksandar Kolarov drafted in to partner Nicolas Otamendi on a number of occasions.
