There are similarities between Jurgen Klopp’s free-scoring Liverpool side and the one I faced with Everton in the thrilling 4-4 FA Cup draw in 1991.
Klopp has said that Liverpool’s attacking play — led by Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho — is some of the best he has seen at any club he has managed.
Those four are Liverpool’s Red Arrows. Back in 1991, they boasted a similarly formidable front line of John Barnes, Peter Beardsley and Ian Rush. All three were serial winners, and all three were on the scoresheet.
