Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge first showed Jurgen Klopp his class at Southampton... now he returns with a point to prove in Sadio Mane's absence

It was a Wednesday night at St Mary's in the League Cup when Jurgen Klopp first witnessed how ruthless a finisher Daniel Sturridge is.

That December evening in 2015, Liverpool had fallen behind to Southampton inside 41 seconds through a Sadio Mane header. Sturridge was making his first start in nearly two months and for the first 20 minutes, it showed. He was often caught in possession if his touch hadn't already let him down.

He struggled to get the ball under control when Joe Allen whipped a teasing high ball over Steven Caulker's head, but managed to reclaim it wide on the left in Southampton's penalty area.
