Liverpool have confirmed Jorg Schmadtke as the club's new sporting director.
The former goalkeeper has been brought in to replace Julian Ward, who stated his intention to step down from the role last November.
Mail Sport reported earlier this month how the Reds were closing in on a deal to bring in the former German goalkeeper and it has now been confirmed.
Liverpool have released a statement saying the 59-year-old German will begin his new role on June 1, subject to the successful completion of work permit formalities.
Schmadtke has reportedly signed a short-term deal with the understanding that his stay at Anfield could be extended if both parties are happy.
