Referee Andre Marriner found himself at the centre of events at the Liberty Stadium — along with Diego Costa — as Swansea ended Chelsea’s perfect start to the season.
Chelsea dominated play and Costa was their outlet, but when holding the ball up he was continually fouled.
Leroy Fer, Federico Fernandez and Jordi Amat were all correctly cautioned for fouls from behind on Costa.
But Marriner then showed a lack of consistency by allowing Amat to stay on the field after yet another foul, this time on Branislav Ivanovic.
