Manuel Pellegrini's final home game of his Manchester City spell a year ago was not great. A draw with Arsenal meant Champions League qualification was not assured and by full-time the Etihad Stadium was half-empty.
It was a Sunday and no doubt supporters wanted to get home, back to family, friends and, for some, work.
Inside the home dressing room, however, strange scenes were afoot as members of City staff tried desperately to drag reluctant players back on to the pitch for a lap of honour. It had been an average season by City's standards and, in short, the players felt a bit embarrassed.
