Vicarage Road, last Sunday. Jesus Navas picked up possession on the right with Manchester City attackers prowling inside Watford’s box hunting for a sixth goal late on.
He looked left and turned back. He feinted in a bid to beat his marker before retreating. Then Navas shifted the ball out of his feet, searching for Gabriel Jesus or Kelechi Iheanacho.
This was going to be his last act as a City player. Make it count. A swing of the boot and eventually a cross which hit the first man before it even reached the penalty area. As farewells go, this felt all very fitting.
