Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse says the whole squad wanted to 'repay' the local community after they became they first became the first Premier League club to introduce wage deferrals.
Saints were the first in the top flights to announce that players and coaching staff would defer part of their salaries for April, May and June to help against the indefinite shutdown of the season brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.
By doing so, Ralph Hasenhuttl's side have ensured that non-playing staff can continue to be paid.
It is believed that around 10 per cent has been deferred by the south coast club, with Ward-Prowse declaring that everyone involved wanted to do the right thing.
