I’ve always had respect for Leeds United, an important part of British football history, who many unfairly judged as thuggish and aggressive during their 1970s pomp, just because they happened to be an uncompromising side. When you’re winning trophies, as they were back then, jealousy comes your way.
The game has obviously moved on leaps and bounds since the time they won the First Division twice in five years, not to mention the 1975 European Cup final which should have been theirs.
But some of that that old Leeds side’s dour, aggressive quality would certainly do them no harm - judging by the 6-1 hammering Liverpool inflicted on them at the start of the week.
