Unknown cricketer Tim David will become Australia's highest paid player in the lucrative Indian Premier League, becoming an instant millionaire after he was snapped up in the competition's player auction.
David, 25, who plays for the Hobart Hurricanes in the domestic Big Bash League T20 competition, will play for the Mumbai Indians after the team won a bidding war among six teams to sign him for $1.53million.
The figure means David will earn more money than Australian Test captain Pat Cummins and other Australian starts including Josh Hazlewood, David Warner and Mitch Marsh.
It's the highest amount the Mumbai club has ever paid for a non-Indian player.
