Sky Sports managing director Vic Wakeling has died at the age of 73.
Wakeling joined Sky, then known as BSkyB, at its formation in 1990, having already enjoyed success as a newspaper journalist.
He became the pay-TV network's head of football in 1991, the year he played a key role in Sky beating ITV to the live rights for the newly formed Premier League. From that moment, British sports broadcasting and top-flight football were arguably never the same again.

Wakeling was promoted to head of sport in 1994 and then Sky Sports' managing director in 1998.
