Former Cambridge United favourite Dave Kitson is among those interested in the chance to succeed Colin Calderwood at the Abbey Stadium.
Calderwood, who had been appointed in December 2018, was sacked from his position as head coach on Wednesday after a slump of one win in 10 League Two games had culminated in a 4-0 defeat at home against Salford City.
Kitson, 39, stepped out of non-league football to start his professional career at Cambridge in 2001 before moving on to the Premier League with Reading and Stoke.
The striker also played for Portsmouth, Sheffield United and Oxford.
