Former 2006 World Cup finalist hired as new Skelmersdale United manager in shock appointment as relegation threatened NWCLPD side hope to lift themselves off the bottom of the league… despite the ex-Prem star having no previous managerial experience

A former Premier League star and 2006 World Cup finalist has surprisingly been appointed as the new manager of Skelmersdale United.

The Lancashire-based side have endured a torrid start to the new season, having lost 15 of their opening 16 matches dropping to the bottom of the North West Counties League Premier Division.

Amid their poor start to the season, the team announced that they had parted ways with former manager Matt Potter on Sunday.

And in a bid to turn things around, they have appointed former Wigan, Tottenham and Sunderland player Pascal Chimbonda as their new manager.
