Football clubs turning to sports insurers as coronavirus panic causes sides to seek financial cover

Sports insurers have become inundated with enquiries from the world of football, with clubs desperately trying to discover if they are covered for losses due to coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Premier League and EFL’s decision to suspend the season until April means dozens of sides are set to lose vital revenue from this period of inactivity.

That particularly applies to those lower down the pyramid.

Luton Town chief executive Gary Sweet, speaking on talkSPORT, called on the Premier League to use its £1.5billion cash reserves to help those clubs in trouble.
